Fire Mountain Tour & Giveaway

About the Book

Book: Fire Mountain (Elements of Danger Series)

Author: Dana Mentink

Genre: Inspirational Romantic Suspense

Release Date: July 1, 2025

In the shadow of a threatening volcano, long-haul trucker Kit Garrido wakes up in her crashed big rig, unable to recall what happened or why she’s suddenly in possession of someone’s baby. Fiercely independent, she has to admit that perhaps this time she could use a little help.

As the threat of eruption grows, former cop Cullen Landry refuses to leave his cabin in the evacuation area, which is why he’s the only one left who can help Kit escape the crumpled cab of her truck. He doesn’t want to get tangled up in the mystery of the beautiful woman with an abandoned infant, but when he sees the bullet hole in the windshield and the bloody handprint on the interior, he realizes that he’s in this thing, like it or not.

When two armed men with ill intent approach, the race is on to stay alive, discover the truth, and find the baby’s missing mother–all while a deadly mountain rains fire from above.

More from Dana

Hello, dear readers! Are you ready to leap into the world of a woman trapped near an erupting volcano? I know. Dropping that character into circumstances where the very earth under their feet is unreliable, where they are cut off from their technology, their transportation, civilization itself with no way to summon help, feels almost cruel. Imagine you’re in a volcano eruption zone with no way out. Now add in a stranger’s baby, a vulnerable infant, , and you are their only hope to stay alive. Why am I so compelled by those scenarios? Me, the woman who loses her backpack in the airport. I believe it’s because in those difficult, stressful moments when we accept our own helplessness that the grace of God shines brightest. Real people and fictional ones survive. Wells of strength are discovered. Hidden rivers of resilience surface. Big cities, island roads, overpasses, in the shadows of volcanoes… in the darkest moments we realize we’re never truly without His help.

MY REVIEW

Gripping. Danger. Intense. Thriller. This is what awaits you as you journey with Kit and Cullen. The opening pages gave me chills as Kit awakens to find herself  not remembering where she is. Let’s just say her life was in imminent danger as a stranger approaches her. With danger surrounding her damaged semi  she needs to get to safety. Finding herself all alone on the edge of a mountain in a wrecked semi makes her start to realize just how much danger she is in.

Cullen tries to make sense of what he sees when the mountain roads have closed due to a volcano. You can feel the tension in Cullen as he races to convince Kit to trust him.  I like that he is willing to help Kit when he sees her in a damaged semi. At first he is not met with friendliness but soon realizes that Kit has a concussion.

I was not expecting a baby to be in the truck with Kit. Who is this baby and where is the mother? Kit has no idea how the baby got in her truck which  made Cullen a bit suspicious. After rummaging around Kit discovers more than baby items in the diaper bag. With that discovery, bullet  holes in the truck and a bloody handprint, it is time for them to find shelter. Someone is out there who means harm.

The action is nonstop in this race to get answers while protecting Kit and baby Tater Tot. Ok. That name makes me laugh everytime. The author is gifted in bringing  a little humor into her stories at a much needed time. I loved feeling as if I was with our main characters as they try to stay one step ahead of an unknown person or persons in this thriller. Be sure and grab a copy of this book and get ready for a bumpy ride through the danger of a volcano, fractured  characters and a mystery this is a must read.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

More from Courtney

Hello, Readers! I’ve dreamed of many businesses that I thought would be fun to own – things like a food truck, a book store, and a bed-and-breakfast were considered. I loved the idea of decorating and planning the theme of a b-and-b, but since I’m not a morning person, the whole preparing breakfast part seemed less exciting. Thankfully, as an author, I can put my imagination to work and experience being an inn owner in my books.

As someone who loves to decorate for the different seasons and holidays throughout the year, I wondered what it would be like to have a b-and-b where each room had a different holiday theme. Enter Carol Holliday and the Holliday Hotel. Carol was born on Christmas and dearly loves all holidays. When her husband unexpectedly dies, she decides to pursue her dream and open the Holliday Hotel which would not only have holiday themed rooms, but would offer celebrations throughout the year for her hometown to enjoy.

In Resolution Room, I wanted to explore the tendency we have to push our timelines and agendas ahead of God’s timing. By making a resolution to not be single by the following New Year’s Eve, Willa makes her desires and timing the focus of the year. How often do I do the same thing? I say I want God’s will, but I push ahead with what I want even when He is saying ‘no’ or ‘wait’.

I hope you fall in love with Holliday Hotel as much as I did and that you come back to visit for the other holidays! See how God’s love is very different from worldly love in Sweetheart Suite. Celebrate the power of the resurrection in Resurrection Rest. Explore the peace of reconciliation in Mama’s Morning Room. Embrace God’s fatherly love for us in Daddy’s Den. Freedom in Christ and forgiveness are the themes of Independence Hall while God’s power over darkness takes the stage in Harvest Hollow. Gratitude and its relationship to love is the focus of Pilgrim Passage. Finally, celebrate Christmas with a second chance romance in Christmas Chamber.

Thank you so much for visiting me! God bless and happy reading!

MY REVIEW

If you have never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast, stop everything and book one now. I love B&B’s because of their inviting decor and hospitality. The food is delicious and the owners are always available to help with any needs you may have. The author describes the B&B in this story so vividly that I felt like I was actually there. The excitement of where this story would go made me not stop reading till I finished the book.

I love that Carol was able to see her dream of owning a B&B become a reality. The loss of her husband has been hard for her but now she has a new found happiness. I can’t imagine all the hard work it took to get the place perfect. With help from friends and family the B&B is finally ready to welcome people to her quaint and restful B&B. Carol knows her husband would be so proud of her and this gives her peace.

The story is a look at how one encounter can change everything. When Willa and her roommates stay at the new B&B to celebrate New Years’s Eve, they decide to do this every year. The closeness they share is inspiring and I like how they look out for each other. It is no accident that the room they stay in is called ,”The Resolution Room.”

I can’t forget to mention Owen. He is dependable, hardworking and becomes Carol’s handyman for the B&B. The first time he sees Willa, he feels a spark. I really enjoyed how their friendship develops over the years. Owen becomes Willa’s best friend but does he want more?

I liked this story because it illustrates how important it is to share your feelings and encourage others to never give up. I was hoping that  Owen would be a little more open about his feelings, but I think  rejection holds him back. Willa continues to come to the B&B every New Year’s Eve, but slowly she finds herself the only one not married. Her insecurity stops her from having self confidence.

A scheme Owen devises to finally show Willa his feelings could backfire in this sweet,  faith filled , clean romance. Waiting on God is hard sometimes, but His ways are better than ours. Pick up a copy and enjoy this book filled with faith, trust and relationships.

More from Kathleen

Have you ever heard of a Shoofly? The word conjures up an annoying, buzzing insect, but a Shoofly is a magnificent white, wooden, raised gazebo-like structure built around giant oaks and sycamore trees. Back in the 1800s, in the south, they elegantly dotted the coastline of Mississippi. Almost every vacation boarding house boasted one. A relaxing venue for people to gather while avoiding the large horse flies that tended to hover closer to the ground, pestering guests and residents. The raised platform also allowed guests to enjoy the ocean breezes on sweltering hot summer days. Sounds romantic, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, due to storms, hurricanes, and erosion, Shooflys all but disappeared in the 1900s. Yet in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, the setting of my Bay Town Books, you can visit a Shoofly today in the local park downtown. In 1989, a group of town women decided to resurrect the nostalgic structure and had one built. It was completed nearly one hundred years after the near extinction of most of the iconic Shooflys along the Gulf Coast. It’s a key setting in my book, Shaded Goodness.

Recently, my childhood friend returned to visit Bay St. Louis. I asked him to take a picture of the Shoofly, and his wife took the shot above of him waving from the deck. He remembers visiting my family in Bay St. Louis sixty years ago, and he said it still has the charm and hasn’t changed or grown much. Except that it’s now an artisan’s dream! Can you imagine? I can. It’s why I set my romantic suspense series in the fictional setting of Bay Town, inspired by Bay St. Louis. Shaded Goodness is the last in the book series.

“You got to forgive him, Jacquie. And no, I haven’t seen him. But I have been talking to Pastor Roland, and it’s a dark spot, one of many in my soul.”

“Dark spots? Is that what you call ’em?” Jacquie threw up her hands. “I can’t even go there. That man killed –”

Themes of forgiveness, second chances, and redemption are woven throughout Shaded Goodness. It was a joy to write because the male protagonist in this book was inspired by the character of my deceased ex-brother-in-law. Shaded Goodness is entirely fictional, but I loved using Mickey’s good traits to craft his character. He was a truly good soul who sadly made poor choices throughout his life. I like to think that if he had lived long enough, his life might have turned out like Mickey’s in this book, happily ever after. That’s why I enjoyed writing this story, as it allowed me to give Mickey a life of redemption here on earth, and I’m grateful that he’s living it in eternity. His love for the Lord in his last years proved contagious, just like his Christ-indwelling goodness. All glory to the Lord.

I pray for my readers that, as in all my books, you will be encouraged in your faith. That’s why I like writing about second chances and reconciliation. Because God is all about that, isn’t he? The Bay Town Series is a collection of stand-alone books. Still, the returning characters, after facing their own troubles and tragedies, help their neighbors as they face similar trials. 2 Corinthians 1:4-5 instructs us to do just that. Some characters choose the right path, and some don’t, just like in real life. But God’s promised hope is extended to all.

Shaded Goodness comes full circle from book one. Melanie Thompson Brooks champions through tragedy in the prequel and in Shattered Guilt. Her growth enables her to serve as the guiding voice to Jacquie Dupree in Shaded Goodness. With similar backgrounds, the pain of their pasts threatens to unravel their future. You won’t need to read Shattered Guilt, Book One, to enjoy Shaded Goodness, Book Five, but I think you’ll want to go back and get to know the lovely people of Bay Town through Restored Grace (First Place in the National Excellence in Writing competition), Shadowed Doubt, and Ransomed Peace. I think you’ll find some good friends and wish they really were your neighbors.

I hope you’ll fall in love with the setting where I lived for a short time as a child. It’s why I set my books in the deep south of Mississippi. Where life was slower, and the small-town community came together for events and rallied and prayed for one another during difficulties, much like the body of Christ should. Come on down to Bay Town; it just may become home.

MY REVIEW

Deeply moving story where dreams have been shattered by wrong choices. From the beginning we see how a young couple with big dreams suddenly become fractured by the enemy. It is a gritty look at how drug addiction can destroy a family. I liked when the author illustrates how God can change a person when they turn their life over to Him.

I read how  a mother would do anything to protect her daughter. Jacquie works two jobs to support herself and her daughter. Beneath the surface is a woman who grieves the loss of a child and the bitterness she carries. Jacquie faces difficult challenges when her ex husband shows up. She has stayed away from her family  for a long time. Suddenly her quiet life becomes chaos.

Mickey is a man who has paid a price for his mistakes. He wants a fresh start and has worked hard for sobriety. His strength in God holds him together as he seeks forgivesness from Jacquie. I like how compassionate he has become for others that seek freedom from their addiction. God placed him at the right place at the right time to share God with the men who are desperate for help.

The story does show how the enemy will use deceit, greed and bitterness to snare you back into sin . The boldness and faith is very evident in Mickey as he faces danger. I like how the author uses Mickey to illustrate how mercy is given when we don’t think we deserve it.

This is a wonderful book of second chances, forgiveness and a new beginning. “The truth shall set you free,” is the scripture I kept thinking of as I read the book. Our word is everything and as long as you stand on truth, God will expose darkness. The ending is everything I had hoped for. God uses people in ways  we may never understand. The author closes  this book out with an unexpected hero and restoration of lives.

“All our actions and reactions without the Lord’s guidance can lead to havoc, creating a domino effect in everyone’s lives.”

I received  copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

THE PRETENDER BY WANDA E. BRUNSTETTER

In book three of the Mifflin County Mystery series, Rosa Petersheim’s return creates more hurt and confusion in the Big Valley.

Two years since Rosa Petersheim mysteriously disappeared from her Amish home, there has been no word from her. Her family and friends have suffered in the silence, though they have tried to move on with life.

Then one day Rosa just as suddenly reappears at her parent’s home. . .with a husband in tow.

Rosa is ashamed of the choices she made that caused her to leave home. And now that she is back, her father is not welcoming and her siblings and friends want explanations that she can’t give.

Will Rosa’s family accept her and Anthony? Can the Big Valley ever be home again?

MY REVIEW

This is probably one of the best books the author has written. Deceit has a way of being revealed and in this case it causes an avalanche of hurt. I really liked how the author illustrates how a lie can have lasting effects on people. We think that if we hide something it will not be found out. Rosa has been estranged from her family for awhile. Being in New York working as a waitress is so different from how she was raised. No one knows that she is Amish but soon that secret will be found out.  What will her family’s reaction be when she reappears on her family’s doorstep after two years?

Anthony is a gifted chef who works at his father’s restaurant. He is happy and content until Rosa springs something on him. He is willing to help Rosa when she asks first help. His life is turned upside down when he travels with her back to her family’s home. What a shock it is to find out Rosa is Amish. Thinking that he is helping Rosa he agrees to pretend they are married. Oh my will this backfire on them.

There is another character in the story that really stood out to me. Rosa’s  sister Susan is jealous of her and is not happy when she comes back home. Susan is bitter and has a way of spreading lies. I did feel bad for Susan because she is very insecure. We can find ourselves being bitter when we are unhappy with our own lives. Can Susan find a way to repent and find unconditional love?

What is evident in the story is the importance of listening to God. We all sin, but need to ask for forgiveness. I love how Anthony starts to want a relationship with God. Nothing happens by accident and when he finds something special in his baggage, his heart is softened. Beautiful message of letting go of the past shows how God can restore joy. I loved how the author uses scriptures in the story and weaves a touching story of redemption, restoring and rejoicing.

“God’s truth will always win out.”

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author. The review is my own opinion.

Off the Itinerary: The Search and Rescue Files Tour & Giveaway

About the Book

Book: Off the Itinerary: The Search and Rescue Files

Author: M. Liz Boyle

Genre: Christian YA

Release Date: May, 2025

Marlee and Marshall are now students at the Professional Outdoor Guides School where Sawyer just graduated. Meanwhile, Lydie is busy training a search-and-rescue dog. In this special edition with seven search-and-rescue stories, the Off the Itinerary characters face new adventures (and misadventures). Adrenaline is high as Marlee faces her fears in a cave rescue, a helicopter evacuation, a swift water rescue, and more! Will Marlee trust that her misadventures are part of a greater plan? If you loved AvalancheChased, and Ablaze, you won’t want to miss this collection of short stories.

Click here to get your copy!

About the Author

Liz is the author of the Off the Itinerary series, the wife of a professional tree climber, and the homeschooling mom of three energetic and laundry-producing children. Liz once spent a summer in Colorado teaching rock climbing, which she believes was a fantastic way to make money and memories. She resides with her family in Wisconsin, where they enjoy hiking and rock climbing. Liz and her husband have also backpacked in Colorado and the Grand Canyon, which have provided inspiration for her writing. She makes adventurous stories to encourage others to find adventures and expand their comfort zones (though admittedly, she still needs lots of practice expanding her own comfort zone).

More from M. Liz

When I published my third book, Ablaze, I was confident that the Off the Itinerary series was complete. Marlee had a solid character arc, she’d endured three natural disasters, and I wanted to finish the series on a good note. A number of devoted readers reached out, asking if I would please write another. I was reluctant for a while, but eventually (thanks to the excitement of my readers), I began brainstorming this special edition. Rather than another full-length novel, I chose to compile seven short stories focusing on Marlee’s involvement with search and rescue missions. I’m eager for my readers to spend bonus time with the Stanley girls and Miles boys. Some things never change, like Marlee’s high odds of finding misadventure and her need to overcome fear with the support of God, her family, and friends. Other things have changed for the better, like Lydie introducing a dog to the adventures. One thing is certain: Marlee must learn that God’s itinerary is better than hers.

MY REVIEW

This is an exciting book that shows bravery, trust and teamwork. I enjoyed seeing how the characters become more confident as they rescue people from life threatening situations. We explore the intricate rescue of a small child deep in a cave. I know firsthand  I would get claustrophobic being in the cave.

The team encourages each other as they face danger. Teamwork is critical in this inspiring book filled with adventure and faith. I enjoyed following Lydie and her dog Bonnet as they train with the team. Marlee is excited to join her family and friends as they do search and rescue. There is one particular person that show signs of jealousy towards one of the characters. This is a good illustration to remember to love each other and rejoice in their achievements. Great book for young readers who like adventure.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
