About the Author

untitled-1In 2015, Barbara Bras left her career to pursue her dream of serving God. She believed that her first step was to share the amazing story of God’s blessings in her life. Wrapped in God’s Grace, A Life Rediscovered does so through a trio of narratives. It begins with the story of her son’s miraculous adoption and the challenging years that followed, her grandparents’ remarkable survival in Armenia, and her own quest for purpose and love. Once written, Barbara realized her life’s new purpose. Captured by St. Paul in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, she views her writing as a tribute to the God who comforts and strengthens us in hardships and trials, and as her mission to encourage others. Her first novel, She Who Knows, A Tale of the Heart, seeks to inspire and encourage. The sequel, She Who Knows No Fear: Another Tale of the Heart, released in December 2017. Solo Deo Gloria, To God Alone Be the Glory

The synopsis talked about Cassie having such fears about losing her husband Zach. What the story was really about was Cassie and her abandonment issues. She really had a fear of being by herself. I did enjoy the way the author focused on how Cassie could feel safe with God. Throughout the story I could sense Cassie gaining confidence and allowing herself to trust God to keep her safe. I think in a way I could relate to her because I have fears of something bad happening or being left all alone. Perhaps the story irritated me because it made me look at myself. No wonder people get annoyed with me. I sound just like Cassie. A very insecure person waiting for some disaster to happen.

It was enjoyable to share the letters with Cassie as she discovers secrets about her past. Her grandmother's letters were eye opening and I felt like maybe Cassie had opened Pandora's box. I wish the author would have given more details about Hawaii. I did very much like the reference to Pearl Harbor though. It was interesting to hear what Cassie's dad experienced during that tragic event. When the assassination of JFK is used in the story I thought it was a perfect example of how quickly a tragic event can change the course of history. Cassie realizes that she was so consumed with the fear of something happening to her husband, that she didn't realize it could happen to someone else. In a way it was a selfish thought she carried around. We get so caught up in our lives, we forget to pray for others . I liked the story but felt there were key things missing. It didn't seem like Zach was really a part of the story. I wanted more of an interaction between him and  Cassie. As her husband, he needed to be more supportive and reassuring. The book left me feeling like part of the story was  missing or I missed out on key parts that would have explained more about the significance of the letters. It was not emphasized as much and felt rushed as Cassie read them. It would have been a great moment for the author to really go into details bout Cassie's past. The relationship with her father was at times not explained and I really wanted to see them talk more openly and share their feelings.

The discovery of the letters that Cassie found did help answer  some questions for her, but would it have been better to keep those secrets buried?  "Sometimes secrets are best left undiscovered and undisturbed. Sometimes we need to accept things as they appear to be and leave it at that."

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

  2. Barbara,
“She Who Knows No Fear” sounds just like the kind of books I like. I can’t wait to read it. It must be a feeling of accomplishment to be able to write books inspired by God. You have encouraged and inspired me to reach out in faith and trust God to show me where and what I need to be doing at this point in my life.
    Thank you
    Blessings
    Kathy
