She’s got her heart set on becoming a missionary. He’s determined to recruit her for the job.
But is it possible to fall in love with someone you’ve never even met?
Susannah’s convinced that God has called her to the mission field. That’s why she’s serving him with single-minded focus in Orchard Grove, waiting for the day when she can leave her small town to take the gospel to the nations.
Is falling in love with her missionary recruiter part of God’s plan for her life or a distraction from the real goal?
Scott loves his life. Traveling the globe, offering spiritual support to missionaries around the world offers enough excitement that the loneliness hardly ever gets to him …
Until he receives an application from a young girl with a heart for the mission field as large as his own, a young girl he finds himself falling for even before they get the chance to meet face-to-face.
Unfortunately, a promise Susannah made to her family may tear her and Scott even farther apart than the miles that separate them.

Guest Post from Alana Terry

The cat’s out of the bag! Back in 2016, I wrote What Dreams May Come, a novel that was based on the way my husband and I fell in love … fourteen months before we ever met! It wasn’t until just before Christmas that I told Scott the romance novel I’d been writing was actually our true-to-life love story, and he was even more surprised than I hoped he’d be! Watch the video to see his reaction.

I have been a huge fan of this author for awhile. Her writing always bring me to a point where I can escape and jump into the book and be part of it. This book is extra special because I get to see a softer and transparent look at her life through a story that brought tears to my eyes. I know when I was getting ready to graduate, I had plans to attend college and become a teacher. I had a boyfriend and figured we would just follow each other to college and see what happens. Sometimes what we want doesn’t always happen the way we plan. This book is one that gives hope, reinforces how we need to continue to have faith and patience.

I loved Susannah right away. She has such a big heart and wants to go into the mission field. God placed that desire on her heart and she was excited to follow her dream. I loved how she became friends with Scott . It was nice to read about how their relationship developed and their dream of mission work was shared between them. When a tragedy strikes, Susannah makes a heart-wrenching decision that will change everything in her life. The beauty of her selfless act choked  me up. How many of us would give up everything to take care of a loved one? I wanted to hug Susannah and tell her “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”

The story was emotional at times and really made me examine my life. Have I been following what God had planned for me? Did I let my dream die because I became discouraged? Thank you for sharing your story with readers. I won’t forget how a young woman dreamed big and had faith to allow God to open doors for her. What may seem impossible , is right before our eyes, if only we continue to trust God.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

This Treacherous Heart FB Banner copy

About the Book

This Treacherous Journey(2)Title: This Treacherous Journey
Author: Misty M. Beller
Genre: Christian historical romance
Release Date: February 6, 2018
Widowed and with child, Emma Malcom is fleeing from the reward offered for her arrest. She’s innocent of the dirty dealings her deceased husband orchestrated, but the angry townspeople didn’t stop to listen to her defense before she narrowly escaped with her life. Now, she and her twin brother, Joseph, must battle the mountain wilderness of the Rockies to reach Canada and the clean start she craves. But when a fall from the rocky cliff leaves Joseph wounded and weak, could the strange mountain man they encounter be God’s gift to see them to safety?
Simeon Grant makes bad choices. His deceased wife and twin babies are lost to him now because of his reckless decisions, and the penance he pays by living alone in this mountain wilderness is only a small piece of what he thinks he deserves. When a city woman, heavy with child, appears on his doorstep with her injured brother, her presence resurrects the memories he’s worked so hard to forget. And when she asks for his help to travel deeper into the mountain country, he can’t help wonder why God would force him to relive the same mistakes he’s already suffered through. Or maybe taking these two to safety could be the way to redeem himself.
But when their travels prove more treacherous than he imagined, Simeon finds himself pressing the limits of his ability to keep Emma and her brother safe. Can he overcome the past that haunts him to be the man she needs? Will Emma break through the walls around Simeon’s heart before it’s too late, or will the dangers of these mountains be the end of them all?

The Treasure of Family
I’m an old-fashioned girl. Always have been. And growing up on the family farm, with grandparents in the old farmhouse next door and cousins living all around us, I can’t imagine my life without family. Now that I’m married with three daughters of my own, I treasure my family even more—both immediate and extended!
In my books, I tend to weave the importance of family into each story somewhere, and This Treacherous Journey is no exception! I first wrote the prologue as a standalone short story, the account of the birth of the hero from another of my books (Reuben Scott from The Lady and the Mountain Call).
It was the story of a father, grieving the loss of his wife and feeling as if he has no choice but to give his newborn twins to another family to raise. I wrote this part of the story a week after my third daughter was born, and I cried buckets through the writing! The story has an even stronger emotional connection for me, because my younger brother and sister were both adopted into our family. I can’t imagine their birth parents having the courage to give them up for adoption unless they knew without a doubt it was the best choice for those sweet babies.
So, as you read This Treacherous Journey, it’s my prayer that you’ll take a moment to cherish your own family. Remember all the special moments. Spend extra time with those you love. Relish the treasures God placed in your life!

I love the mountains and all the beauty it brings. The story is beautifully written with such charm and realism. Emma is one tough woman. She loses her husband and then is accused of a crime. Doesn’t sound like she is having a good day to new . She takes off with her brother to Canada before she is arrested. Oh did I mention that she is quite pregnant, has no idea how to get to Canada and still takes off anyway. Emma just what were you thinking?

Joseph is a great brother and watches out for his sister. At some point they decide they need someone to help them get to Canada. The terrain is not for the faint of heart. They hitch up with Simeon who agrees to be their guide. Simeon is tough, rugged and carrying a barrel full of hurt. I can say this will be one trip they will never forget. Just as a side note, I love mountains but hate traveling on them. You look down and all you see is , well a big drop to the bottom. No I think I will stick to reading stories about people who travel on mountains.

I loved the danger they faced and how vivid the author represents the frigid weather and lack of shelter at times. I worried for Emma and her baby . It couldn’t be good to be jostled around while pregnant. She was such a trooper and hardly ever complained. She was so ready to get to her family in Canada that at times she didn’t want to rest. The author surprised me with a scene that made me scream “Look out”but Emma didn’t hear me. Simeon promised he would keep her safe, but in a blink of an eye she is gone. The story really takes on an adventure with Simeon and Joseph to the rescue. Can they find Emma in time before harm comes to her? Who would want to kidnap her? The ending is very well written and the author had me on my feet screaming at those men to hurry before it was to late. You must read this book to find out what happens to Emma. I read the book in just a few hours because I couldn’t put it down. It is so good and realistic, I had to see what was going to happen to our main characters. This is one book you must not miss. I loved the faith Emma shared with Simeon and together maybe they can find happiness and peace.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
