What a wonderful story to remind us of how important communication is in a marriage. We meet Betty Tanner when she is stuck in a snowstorm. She is fortunate enough to find a farmhouse to ask for help. I loved how Glenn was not really overjoyed by seeing Betty on his doorstep. We step back in time to 1954 when things were simpler and for entertainment, families listened to the radio, read or played games with each other. Glenn's family is warm and very welcoming. I wanted to join them for supper and sit and talk with them. What a wonderful family Glenn had.

Betty was brought up with not wanting for anything. Her family was well off and this may have discouraged Glenn from pursuing her. The story is a wonderful look at marriage from the beginning when everything seems perfect until two people start to distance themselves. It was easy to see how pride was the biggest culprit. Neither one wanted to admit they had things to work on. It was funny to see that once again Betty is snowbound at the farm in 1985. The difference is her husband is staying at the farm, but they have been living apart. God definitely had a plan for them.

The talk Betty had with God was powerful. She kept asking why He wouldn't change Glenn. I had to laugh at that. Don't we always feel like if our spouse would change, everything would be better? What we forget is, God needs to change each of us and we need to concentrate on what He is saying to us. God will take care of our spouse, we just need to let go and let God. I have always heard "quality over quantity is better " That can be said for spending time together. It's the undivided attention you give to each that counts, not that you sat beside each other for hours and said nothing.

I cried through the entire book because I saw a young couple so in love, that let circumstances, pride, and bitterness try to pull them apart. Betty and Glenn may come from different backgrounds but if they are to be together, God will open the doors for that to happen. This book would make a beautiful movie. I loved how the author included that God hates divorce. He wants us to work things out , to grow stronger so the enemy can't separate us. There are wonderful nuggets of wisdom throughout the book that I wrote down in my journal. I want to reread them to remind myself that I am blessed with a wonderful husband.

" The secret to  happy marriage is this: It's never the wrong time to dance with with your beautiful bride."

I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
