About the Author

Erin UngerErin Unger was raised in the hills of Virginia, exploring abandoned houses and reading the scariest books she could find. After marrying so young it would make a great romance novel, she has enjoyed an exciting life with her hubby. But her fast-paced life sometimes rivals the suspense in her books thanks to all her mostly grown children and a couple grandkids.

More from Erin

If you like spicy, you’re gonna love Shauna Pratley. She has the muscles and weaponry knowledge to protect her team—along with a very tough attitude. And she knows better than most what it is to serve and protect after a stint in the Army. But now life is a little upside down to her. Should she re-enlist or solidify her career with Worthington Investigations? Of course, her military background will never wear off even if she doesn’t return. She won’t leave her camo uniforms in the dust, either, no matter how hard her P.I. buddies try to put a little variety in her wardrobe.
But under it all, Shauna couldn’t be a better partner to work with. Her loyalty and protectiveness would make you all wish she was your work buddy and best friend too.
Just take a look in Summer Flash Burn for all the spice and thrills—and love—you could want between the pages of a great romantic suspense novel.

This has been a very interesting  story with intrigue and romance mixed together. It was a bit hard at first to keep going back and forth between chapters as we read the characters thoughts and follow them on their journey. I wasn't sure I liked it at first but after awhile I began to want to know what they thought. I did like the faith element in the story and found it not to be overwhelming. In fact I liked how the author slowly used it as Christopher began to want a renewed relationship with God.

Shauna was my favorite character Her insight into crime investigations were very authentic and her keen observation helped turn the investigation in the right direction. The team she works with is all female and I loved how they had each others backs. Shauna is struggling with a decision that could change the course of her life. As she helps Christopher find out who killed his father, an attraction begins immediately. I didn't like that part at all. I wanted to know more about the crime and less about how instantly they took to each other. For a bit I felt Shauna was more focused on her love life than her job. I did chuckle when Shauna insisted on being Christopher's bodyguard. Christopher's ego was a little hurt and didn't want a female protecting him.

I did like the Native American part of the story. I found it very interesting and loved learning about their customs. It is quite unusual for the Chief to be a woman and I  liked how the author used this unique twist in the story. She seemed to be well respected and had the tribe follow the rules pretty well. I liked how the author touched on the Chief and her daughter's relationship. it is worth mentioning because it shows how we sometimes forget our children need our attention.

The story is not only about a murder but a fire and broken and frayed relationships. The more I got into the story the more I started to like the writing style of the author. Just when I think I figured out the story, the author throws several twists in to keep me guessing. There is a lot of danger in the book and suspects that seem guilty but I was never able to guess the culprit. The author really took me by surprise at the end with a completely  unexpected twist which turned the investigation upside down.

I  received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit . The review is my own opinion.
