Genre: Christian Suspense/Romantic Suspense
Release date: October 21, 2021
Jack and Chloe Bartholomew just wanted a romantic second honeymoon in the beautiful Hudson River Valley at the legendary hotel his family recently acquired. However, instead of spa treatments and horseback rides through the snow, things are all wrong at the Stonehall Estate Resort.
First, she learns of months of unexplained mishaps.
It soon becomes clear someone wants the resort to fail and will stop at nothing to make that happen. The question is…why?
In an effort to help the family business, Chloe picks up where the hotel’s last historical curator left off. But things quickly grow dangerous as her research uncovers truths hidden for decades—clues related not only to the mysteries sparked by a young girl’s death in 1931, but also those haunting the estate today. Soon Chloe is caught in a deadly race to expose the mansion’s secrets before more innocents become victims of the malevolent force behind it all.
Will Chloe bring the long-lost truth to light in time, or will she be the next to fall prey to the dark scheme, costing her everything, including her life?

More from D.L. Wood
I love stories. I’ve always loved them. Stories carry you away, make you think, take you on suspense-filled rides and introduce you to characters that you love so much you want to meet them in real life. I’m such a voracious reader that at the age of nine, my eye doctor told me if I didn’t start reading with more light, I’d need glasses way too early. Can you relate?
I guess that’s why I became a writer—to be part of the amazing adventure that is storytelling.
And let’s face it. Right now, most of us wouldn’t mind an amazing adventure.
In my Unintended Series of suspense novels, you’ll visit sizzling Caribbean beaches, Tennessee in golden autumn, and a snow-blanketed Hudson River Valley with a cup of hot cocoa in hand. You’ll go with characters that are believable—flawed, brave and hopeful—in the face of danger. Of course, there’s always romance in the mix and touches of faith, leaving you encouraged as well as entertained.
It’s what I’d want to read, so I wrote it for you.
I’m beyond thrilled that the third book in the series is releasing. Frankly, I wanted to see what happened to Chloe, Jack, and Riley as much as my readers did!
I hope you enjoy reading Unintended Detour as much as I enjoyed writing it—and that you have an amazing adventure along the way.
MY REVIEW
This book is a must for fans of mystery. I loved how the story caught my attention right away and had me invested in each character. The elements of the mystery are very well written and I loved learning about the mystery of the historical resort. I felt like I became a sleuth as I tried to solve the mystery of something that happened in 1931. Can you imagine sifting through papers and artifacts for this time period? I wanted to be in the room helping so I could be the one to solve what others have tried years to do.
The author does an amazing with the cast of characters. Each one was well defined and vital to the story in some way. Chloe was such an inquisitive person and knows just the right questions to ask to further her search for the truth. Just as she started getting close to the truth, someone would get injured or disturb the papers she had collected. Going to the resort with her husband to celebrate their second anniversary doesn’t seem to be quite what they expected.
What really grabbed my attention is how Chloe wanted to make sure that the truth was told to perhaps bring good from something that was tragic. I loved her attention to following every lead and never giving up. There are other characters in the book that are also helping her but I don’t want to give too much away. It was so hard not to read ahead to see if Chloe had solved the mystery. I had a list of suspects and reasons they may be guilty. The author does include faith in the book and really focuses on how Chloe needs to wait on God and let His plans guide her.
The ending is extremely well written as pieces start to come together. I was shocked at who was behind everything and how Chloe was able to finally solve the mystery that so many people had tried to do for years. It has been a pleasure to read this book as the author masterfully put a mystery together with subtle hints and a paper trail that shares a young woman’s hope to help others.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit . The review is my own opinion.
