More from Sarah
Life has a funny way of mirroring fiction at times, and that happened to me with Fatal Past—but not when I was writing it! I wanted my hero’s (and heroine’s) son to be school-age but not too old, so I picked second grade, which put him at age 7. This is such a fun age, as they are independent and inquisitive, and you start to really see their personalities develop.
Little did I know when I wrote this last fall that I would be teaching twenty-three second graders as a long-term substitute this current school year! I began in mid-September and will continue through early March while their regular teacher is out on maternity leave. It’s been challenging but rewarding as they expand their knowledge and build on their kindergarten and first-grade foundations.
Your turn—how has something you read resonated with you lately? Has a storyline mirrored something happening in your own life?

MY REVIEW
The story is fast paced and easily one of the best suspenseful thrillers I’ve read in awhile. I like how the author cleverly starts the book with a heart pounding of intense action. Eve has a dark past that will soon catch up with her. We get snippets of the treatment she endured that has caused her to be careful of her surroundings. Running into an old boyfriend will soon lead to danger as the two try to stay alive.
Jefferson has definitely taken on a lot as he cares for his nephew. I like how he is dedicated to the boy and always looks out for him. I was shocked when danger entered Jefferson’s life that seem to have ties to Eve. I couldn’t wait to see the connection between Eve and Jefferson’s nephew.
If you are looking for a clean suspenseful story this one is for you. With twists and turns Eve and Jefferson slowly build trust in order to survive the attacked surrounding them. Why is someone trying to harm Ethan? Will Eve discover the truth about Ethan? This is a great illustration of second chances and letting go of the past.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate. The review is my own opinion.
