Release date: July 13, 2021

Saving Faith take 1bHearts and flowers might pay the bills, but that’s all they’re good for.

Still clutched in the grip of guilt over her youthful indiscretions, Faith Nicholson can’t seem to move past her parents’ disappointment in her—or her disappointment in herself.  Determined to make something in her life a success, she focuses on her floral design.

After all, she has quite the past to atone for.

Then her little sister decides to get married, and everyone but Faith chooses her for the job of coordinator. The family florist is the perfect choice. Right? Overruled, Faith agrees.

Enter a widower and his precocious daughter. A friendship with Michael Jacobs becomes more than a refuge in stress of wedding preparations. It becomes a catalyst for her entire life.

Hiding from her past hasn’t worked until now. Perhaps Michael is right.  Facing it is exactly what she needs if she has any hope of a real future.

Faith never would have imagined that her grudging agreement to help her sister could become an olive branch between herself and her family—and the Lord.

About the Author

JenniferJennifer Sienes holds a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in education, but discovered life-experience is the best teacher. She loves Jesus, romance and writing–and puts it altogether in inspirational contemporary fiction. Her daughter’s TBI and brother’s suicide inspired two of her three novels. Although fiction writing is her real love, she’s had several non-fiction pieces published in anthologies–two in Chicken Soup for the Soul. She has two grown children and one very spoiled Maltese. California born and raised, she recently took a step of faith with her real-life hero and relocated to Tennessee.

More from Jennifer

Where does inspiration come from? When I wrote Illusions and Providence (books 2 and 3 of my Apple Hill series) it came from real-life tragedies I’d lived through. The characters and stories were pure fiction, but the inspiration was heartfelt and dark—just where I needed my emotions to be in order to write redemption stories. When I wrote Surrendered (Book 1) in the series, the inspiration came from one character that was eventually deleted in the second draft of Providence. Are you confused yet? Just to set the record straight, although Surrendered was the first book published in the series, it was the last one I wrote. Why they were published in the order they were is unimportant.

Saving Faith is unlike any other book I’ve written. It was the first novella I wrote in the series, although it isn’t the first to be published (are you sensing a pattern?) I’ve since written two Christmas novellas, both based on side characters introduced in my novels. All That Glitters released last November starring two characters from Surrendered—Julia and Marty. Wish Upon a Star will release this coming November, and the main characters are Elaina and Ryan from Providence.

But the characters in Saving Faith were created from thin air. Well, mostly. Although Addie Jacobs is a side character, she was inspired by a little girl in my Sunday School class—adorable, precocious, intelligent, and headstrong. Once I had her in place, the rest of the novella came together. It was also the first book I’ve written without plotting it out in advance, which was quite disconcerting for a control-freak like me. It was as if the Holy Spirit introduced me to the story as I wrote it. I’ve heard of those pantsers (they write by the seat of their pants rather than outline the plot), but until Saving Faith, I’ve never been successful at winging it. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t the main writer; I was just the co-pilot. I believe the story of Faith, Michael, Chloe, and Addie is better for it.

Another first for me was writing a story where romance was the main genre. I write women’s fiction with an element of romance. But Saving Faith is a romance with an element of women’s fiction. This set the bar for my other novellas. It’s these shorter books that allow me to delve into the world of romance, although it’s not the typical boy-meets-girl kind of story. It’s more boy-knows-girl and loves her anyway kind of story. Because truth be told, none of us are loveable without the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

MY REVIEW

I enjoyed this story so much that I didn’t want it to end. It is an easy read filled with characters that you want to be friends with. I liked how the story flowed with faith elements in just the right places. I needed to read a book like this which is not heavy but still has a great message.

Faith is pretty hard on herself at times. She thinks she is being punished by God for sonething that happened in her past. I think we can all raise our hands and say we have thought the same thing. When we are at our lowest that is when the enemy comes  in to distract us. Faith represents each of us who struggle with guilt, shame and self esteem. I wanted to tell her that she is not alone, even though it may feel like it at times.

Pastor Michael Jacobs  and his daughter are so perfect for this story. I liked how the author shows that even pastors struggle at times. We forget that pastors are just like us and find themselves fighting the enemy at times. Michael has his hands full with his energetic daughter Addie. When he looks at her he thinks about the wife he lost. His wife makes a life changing decision that reminds me of the scripture, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friend.” Her choice was hard to read but I understood why she did it.

The romance in the story is clean and moved at a nice pace. The author allows the characters to get to know each other and learn to trust each other. The moment that Faith decides to go to Michael and share her past was written so well. There was no judgment only guidance of how to forgive and move forward. This was my favorite part of the story. Reading how vulnerable Faith was and allowing someone to minister to her was priceless. The author has given us a story that not only expresses the love that God has for us but also Remi do us that we are forgiven.

“Forgiveness is often like an onion-it comes in layers. Just know that there may be moments when you get angry again, and that’s ok. God’ll get you through it.”

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

About the Author

March 2021Award-winning author Caryl McAdoo prays her story brings God glory, and her best-selling stories—fifty-nine published—delight Christian readers around the world. The prolific writer also enjoys singing the new songs the Lord gives her—listen at YouTube. Sharing four children and twenty-one grandsugars (three greats), Caryl and Ron (her high-school-sweetheart-husband of fifty-plus years) live in the woods south of Clarksville, seat of Red River County in far Northeast Texas. The McAdoos wait expectantly for God to open the next door.

More from Caryl

At the end of DUPLICITY At The Lowell House, book one in my new Cross Timbers Mystery series, Henry Buckmeyer travels from Red River County to Dallas to serve as a character witness in the big murder trial.

At a supper with friends in that book, he mentions he and Levi Baylor found a human skull with an ax still embedded in it inside a falling-down shack on some timberland property they bought together.

What starts out as an off-handed comment—merely mentioned for interesting conversation—turns into a great way to unite four of my all-time favorite characters together again for SKULLDUGGERY In The Sulphur River Bottoms!

Charity Lowell (Cross Timbers Romance Family Saga, book four and DUPLICITY) pulls out all the stops to persuade her husband, salivating to investigate and discover whose skull it is and who left the hatchet behind!

She’s got to talk him into first, solving the mystery and second, writing another novel about it! If only she can convince him to collaborate with May Meriwether, Henry’s famous dime novelist wife, things will be perfect! Just imagine!

Poor Morgan. Strong as he is, he cannot tell her no. He never could. So, with an invitation from the Buckmeyers, as much as he hates leaving home and his own bed, he agrees.

My favorite part is having Henry alive again! SKULLDUGGERY is set in 1866, so he’s still got almost twenty years to live!

—It so hurt my heart in COVERING LOVE (book eight in the “Texas Romance Family Saga”) when the patriarch passes to his reward in 1885. I wept while writing his demise then couldn’t get through reading those chapters at our writers’ workshop without crying—

So being able to resurrect his character in the Cross Timbers Mystery DUPLICITY made me so happy! SKULLDUGGERY became the perfect vehicle for me to be joyful again! Plus, I adore joining the characters from both my family sagas into a new story!

I was right up in Morgan’s face with Charity trying to talk him into going to Clarksville and staying a few weeks to investigate and write that book! Yes, he agreed, but he tells her in no uncertain terms, that’s the last one!

Ah ha ha ha ha! Yeah, right, Mister Lowell!

MY REVIEW

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of this author. I get excited every time a new book by her comes  out and this one,  oh my it was not just good but exceptional. Having a story in a story may confuse some people, but I found it easy to follow. The concept was brilliant and I loved how the two couples worked together to not only solve a mystery but write a bestseller.

I was excited to find out how they would solve the brutal murder and it really kept me on my toes. Two brothers in love with the same woman can only spell trouble. Sunny Day is a sweet woman whose looks turn heads everywhere she goes. It doesn’t take long for brothers John and James to notice Sunny Day. What I liked was how these two brothers were different in many ways but always looked out for each other. What happens when a woman comes between them? Will they turn on each other or will one bow out?

In the story you can tell that pride is a big factor for both brothers. They have been competing against each other for this woman’s attention and it causes friction between them. Now I don’t  want to give away which brother did what because for me that was the best part  of the  mystery.

I loved how the two couples unraveled the mystery with hints and a lot of investigation. It’s funny how one certain character said that this is the last book they will write. With the gift these couples have, they write a story rich in history and how anger, greed and pride can cause someone to do the unthinkable. It was sad that two brothers couldn’t put their differences aside. I so wanted things to turn out differently. There was so many ways the story could have gone,  but when you turn your back on your faith the enemy marches in.

I do want to mention that there are a few scenes that may be sensitive to some. In the story it is referred to as bedding down. I think in all the instances this  happened the woman  was being taken advantage of. The slave girl wanted to be free so badly that she was willing to do anything. I felt sorry for her because her hopes were crushed and she was used in a sinful way. It makes me wonder  if we were held captive what we would be willing to do to be set free?

Every book I have read from this author always blesses me and helps me grow closer to God. This story reminded me to be content where we are in life and to be joyful that we have been set free from our sins.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Telling Other People’s Stories

One of the benefits of being married to a fellow writer is that you have a built-in sounding board for story ideas. Your next novel can come from something as simple as a dinner conversation or one person musing out loud and before you know it, the two of you are heaping ideas on top of each other until the bare bones of a promising story emerge.

That’s how Fool’s Luck started. My bride and I were talking and she wondered aloud about why people who won the lottery don’t so something spectacular and world-changing with the the winnings. Before I knew it, we were talking about one “lucky” such person deciding to spend his winnings on a run for president of the United States, and my latest novel was born.

Like with all my books, first came the outline, followed by the research. For my previous trilogy (Chasing DeceptionUndue Pressure and Running), the protagonist Jim Mitchell was a much more exciting version of myself, so I could write about being a journalist, college professor and political candidate (for the latter, I had worked enough campaigns to paint some broad brushstrokes).

With Fool’s Luck, however, the only part I could directly relate to was the fact Myles Bradford and I were both married high school teachers. But that was only going to take me so far. I had friends give me insight about life in other parts of the country, and fill in blanks about medicine and private security, but there were two parts of the story that I knew would involve details requiring some pretty in-depth, and sometimes painful, interviews.

The first major tale I had to tell was a political one and a good friend gave me insights that helped build out that side of the story with richness and depth.

The second story, the personal one, was much harder to flesh out. More than medical information, I needed emotions, real, raw emotions, to tell my story and give my characters depth. This need drove me to interview a parent of a former student of mine. Her story was so heart wrenching, so real, that it was hard to read without crying. Her willingness to share her story, to open up a wound, was brave beyond words. Her generosity helped me create a tale would ring true with my readers.

All storytelling is sharing the very real emotions of friends and family, strangers and acquaintances, in a fashion that retains the truth while weaving in enough fiction to keep the story true to itself. Balancing the nonfiction within the fiction with finesse is the key.

Making readers laugh once in a while along the way, well, that’s just the icing on the cake.

MY REVIEW

What would you do if you won the lottery? I think a lot of us would say pay  off bills, buy a new car, take a vacation or maybe give some to a charity. For Myles he had a very different plan when he won. He shocks his family when he tells them he is going to run for President of the United States. Okay now there are many thoughts rushing through my head. Is he qualified? Does he know what he is getting into? Is he crazy?

I was very engaged in the story as this unknown decided he wanted to make a difference. Being a teacher for many years , he has loved every minute of it. Myles is ready to change the world and being President will give him the opportunity to take his ideas and watch them improve our nation. Okay I did laugh as I read that this virtually unknown man thought he could actually win the race.

The story follows one man as he puts his name in the race. I liked learning all the ins and outs of running for office. Your life is now very public and everything is open season to the media. It did have a hint of realism as one story came out that was definitely a smear campaign. The author does a good job of tackling this issue and delivers a nice way to stop the rumors.

I did like the story but for me the behind the scenes personal story where the author shined. Myles must convince his wife that this is the  right thing to do. He is willing to use every cent of his winnings to be the President. I thought his wife was wonderful and supported him every step of the way. Of course there was that moment of “Are you kidding me?” that she thought but wouldn’t you ask the same thing?

There is a part of the story where Myles struggles with his faith. He has the same question that many  of us have. Why does God allow things to happen? We may not get the answer but Myles will face a crisis that will not only test his faith but what his priorities are. This was the best part of the book for me. We witness real emotion, see Myles struggle with what he should do and watch him tackle  the very basic question. Is being President more important than family?

Be prepared to laugh, cry and rejoice as one man  sets out to change the world in this emotional journey. I really enjoyed the book and loved how believing in yourself gives you confidence to see your dreams come true.

Her Rim Country Mystery novel, Deadly Payload, was a finalist in the Book Excellent Awards and the Beverly Hills Book Awards. She’s a lifelong writer, both for fun and as a professional in marketing communications. She holds a degree in journalism/public relations. A native of the southwestern U.S., Karen lives with her husband in Arizona.

More from Karen

Since Choir Loft Murder is the third book in the Frankie Shep Suspense Novellas series, I wanted to show how Frankie has grown through the series—from broken woman who is angry at God for allowing the deaths of family into a strong and happy woman who relies on God to help her through an unusually tough life.

She has shown her grit in all three novels in the series, and this one shows how she has grown through the adversity life has thrown at her.

In writing Choir Loft Murder, I wanted to show that ordinary people usually are stronger and more resilient than they know.

MY REVIEW

This is a quick story that centers on revenge. Frankie and Quinn are engaged and looking forward to being married. It is a big step for Frankie to take on the new job of Pastor’s wife. Life has a way of giving us curves sometimes and that is where the story begins. It is a typical night of choir practice until one of the choir members is killed. I thought the choice of weapon was unique and pointed to one particular person who is very  familiar with this weapon. Yes our pastor is charged with the murder and taken off to jail. Now I thought it was rather quick for an arrest especially with evidence that was too convenient.

The author gives us some background on an accident that had a lasting affect on a few people. I really never guessed who the  killer was so that gets a high five from me. The faith element is very light in the story but Frankie’s determination to find her fiancée innocent really shines. She goes to great links to investigate on her own. The story is good and my favorite character has to be Frankie. In the midst of danger, she stood her ground and showed courage.
